Last Shot – Ellie

Today we are delighted to bring you the free verse poem “Last Shot” by Ellie. We love how this poem uses words, repetition, and formatting to highlight a central theme and draw in the reader. Enjoy!

Ellie is a senior in high school who has a love for writing (fantasy, flash fiction, and free verse), the LOTR movies (but not the Hobbit ones which are awful in comparison), and reading (her favorite book is “Summerlost” by Ally Condie). When she is not writing Ellie can be found hanging out with friends, playing guitar (badly), and reading mystery novels. She is currently studying communication with a focus in digital arts and hopes to continue writing all her life.

  1. I love the flow of this poem as it feels like an inconsistent storm where it gets loud at times and then very quiet. You really nailed it.

But low-key tho I just watched Hamilton the other night and had “My Shot” stuck in my head while reading it haha.

    1. I agree! The poem SOUNDS like a storm as much as it describes one. If Last Shot was a performance piece I could see it with a similar cadence and flow to My Shot. XD
